France Trip

En Plein Air Painting in the medieval villages of southern France April, 2026.

Six Degrees of Freedom is offering a painting retreat for experienced artists in Limoux, France. This two week (14 day) trip includes accommodation at Le Monastere in Limoux along with all breakfasts, 12 dinners (with wine), the use of easels and painting stools, pickup and dropoff at Toulouse-Blagnac International Airport, transportation to locations for on-site work and use of a studio. Also included are the use of bicycles for those interested. There will be two free days scheduled during the two week period, one of which may be used for an optional overnight trip to the Mediterranean (requiring an additional fee for accommodation).

Not included is transportation between your home and Toulouse International airport, lunches and personal expense items such as laundry and telephone, medical or cancellation insurance.

We will paint in and around the picturesque village of Limoux, with its medieval bridges and churches, colourful narrow streets, animated market days and surrounding vineyard or go to quiet villages in the region, not too far from Limoux. The sites have been chosen on the advice of the many artists and art teachers who have come to Le Monastere over the years. Each site offers a wide range of subjects from unique and intriguing architecture to typical southern French landscapes: wildflowers, sunflower or poppy fields, vineyards, forested hillsides, seaside marshes with exotic birds or waves crashing against rocks surrounding fishing villages, the Pyrenees mountain range on the horizon and much more. On two or three days we will take longer excursions to some exotic sites such as the high Pyrenees or a Catalan village or one of the famous medieval castles.

All of the sites have been chosen for their comfort and because of the large number of quality sites available, we aren't tied down to a fixed itinerary. We go where the weather is best. On the few days where it may not be comfortable to sit for long periods, we can go sketching here and there and return to the studio at the hotel to work.
